The issue of prevention and diagnosis of preterm labor has continued to plague the obstetric community. At present, preterm births account for 70% of neonatal morbidity and mortality. Current methods lack the ability to detect early indications of preterm labor and are unable to provide timely diagnosis to facilitate prevention of preterm birth. This means that by the time labor has truly manifested, birth can only be delayed by a few days. There is a need for a method to accurately detect early indications of preterm labor in patients with symptoms or known risk factors in clinical settings.
