Johns Hopkins University Center for Bioengineering and Innovation Design

About Us

Welcome from the Executive Director

The Department of Biomedical Engineering at Johns Hopkins University is internationally recognized as a leader in biomedical research and education. With a footing in both the Whiting School of Engineering and the Johns Hopkins School of Medicine, BME students have access to a wealth of clinical and scientific depth across both Johns Hopkins campuses.

This access also makes Hopkins BME the ideal place to pursue an MSE degree in biodesign. As a student in our Center for Bioengineering Innovation & Design, you will engage closely with clinicians, engineers and experienced industry advisors to design, build and test devices that solve significant health care needs. Your mentors at CBID will help you learn what it takes to go from needs assessments through device development, gaining key entrepreneurial and management skills along the way.

Be prepared for an intense life-changing eleven months! Previous CBID MSE students have set the bar high, with multiple first place wins across the nation in business plan competitions and with design awards and grants. They've also done very well launching into a variety of careers, from medical school to industry to leading their own startups based on their CBID projects.

Please feel free to contact us if you have any questions on how CBID can help launch your career as a leader in medical innovation.

Sincerely,
